Corcoran Tournament
Corcoran Tournament
Remembering a Coach who Passed Young
The Corcoran Tournament was established in 1993 after Steve J. Corcoran passed away after a brief battle with cancer, at age 36. Valerie was 10 and her brother, Michael was 8 when their father, who coached youth baseball in Claremont was taken too soon.
This tournament has become an enduring midsummer classic (July) for Claremont, drawing teams from all over New England. This tournament assists with raising funds to support our current youth Baseball/Softball program in its operations every year.
Though Steve, played himself and was quite talented, he always balanced; confidence, modesty, competitiveness, and sportsmanship. Corcoran believed strongly in hard work, dedication, and always strived to instill all of these characteristics in our local youth athletes.
The cornerstone of The Corcoran Tournament is based on good, clean competitive play all while maintaining a high regard for Sportsmanship.
Hartford Coach James shared, “This is a fun tournament and there is great competition and great sportsmanship”.
Norwich Coach, Costa shared, “It is high-quality baseball that is close by. But also, it is a labor of love and I just love the way it connects families, communities, and generations”.
Thank You From The Family
It is such an honor to still have a thriving tournament in our father’s memory, over 30 years now. Without you, your talented athletes, dedicated parents and fans this could not be possible.
To see the park so busy throughout this tournament each year fills our hearts. Our community enjoys hosting this Tournament every year!
Remember, it doesn’t stop at the sport, this type of comradery, teamwork, encouragement, dedication, & work ethic will stay with these children for a lifetime.
Our hope is to continue this Tournament for many years to come! See you there.
